*Major appologies for the delay in this post! I had it written weeks ago, but have had major technical difficulties with the photos! Better late than never!*
It’s nearly 11pm at night, and I’m tired… and its only Tuesday and I managed to have the past weekend off. Working a rotating roster makes much of my time feel like this. Overused, under-compensated, and under-appreciated. But thats the life of a junior nurse.
You start at the bottom and you work your way up (literally – pun intended).
With that being said, I’m sure you can very much understand how I longed for my holiday at the end of 2017 and into the new year. I didn’t just long for it; I desperately needed it, and finding myself a very long way away from reality was just the type of fresh air my soul needed to breathe.
On the 26th of December I boarded my flight QF1 and headed to Dubai where I was to spend a 6 hour stop over (a long time alone!) before boarding my final flight to Lisbon, Portugal. It was heaven walking through the doors as the airport in Lisbon and seeing my love standing there. Cool as ever, he looked over at me, smiled this easy going ‘fancy seeing you here’ smile, lent forward to kiss me over the banister and said ‘hey beautiful, welcome to Portugal’ *swoon!*
We made sure we had everything together before meeting with V’s dad and making our way home. I was fortunate enough to be generously hosted by V and his family at their home in Portugal (No, he’s not Portuguese, it’s a little more complicated, but thats a story for another time) and it was an especially special time to get to know his family better, and also meet extended members of his family, in their family reunion for the first time in 5 years.
While my holiday was officially 10 days, due to time differences and travel times, I only had 7 full days in Portugal. It sounds like a short amount of time, but I was also quite needing to do some relaxing as well, and for the time I spent there, I saw more than plenty, and left me wanting more and more. Something tells me this won’t be my only trip to Portugal anyway…
I’ve separated my trip into a few posts – Lisbon, Sintra, Tiles and Cabo Da Roca and my personal highlights and recomendations. All of which are coming in the next few posts. This post is simply a brief overview of a few of my favourite photos of the trip, and a brief commentary on what we did as well. I didn’t end up taking as many photos as I usually do, mostly because we either we driving around, or I was making the conscious effort to be more mindful and aware of where I was and what I was doing, rather than experiencing things through the lens for the first time. I’m quite fond of the ones I did take though.
Have you ever been to Portugal? Where did you go? What did you like the most?
